Understanding Shapes
Do you get overwhelmed when looking at a building that you want to sketch? I get it. Here is one tip that may help you to get past that overwhelm.
One key to sketching architecture lies in seeing overall shapes in buildings. Start by observing the structure carefully and breaking it down into basic shapes. This will help you capture the structure's essence without getting lost in the details.
For example, let's take a look at one of my favorite buildings, the Copper Building in New York City. (See photo below).
